Known historically as ‘mother’s ruin’, Gin is undergoing a global renaissance in the earlyread more 21st century, going from something your mum drinks with tonic to a staple of mixologists and hipsters everywhere. Derived from the Dutch drink and word jenever, the base flavour of gin has always been juniper berries, while the most common form of gin in NZ, London Dry Gin, is usually infused with ingredients like anise, angelica root, orris root, liquorice and cassia bark. New Zealand has its own craft gin market where it has become popular to experiment with local botanicals like Horopito, Kawakawa and Manuka.read less
